Based in the large Japanese city of Yokohama, our parent company, Yokohama Toyopet, operates one of the largest dealership networks in Japan. Mr. Kanji Miyahara founded the company in 1956. He endeavored to incorporate the “Customer First” philosophy into all aspects of his business. As a result, the company grew quickly and soon became one of the most respected dealership networks in Japan.
Continued growth resulted in the formation of several related companies marketing different model lines and also working in different fields including home building and sales, communications equipment, rentals and leasing, sound systems and market research. By the end of 1996, the company had grown to encompass 12 sub-companies, comprised of 291 dealership branches and 65 other branches. A total of approximately 5500 people were employed. To put that into perspective, Petro Canada, one of Canada’s largest employers, employed 5680 people at the end of 1996.
